Strung Out

Originally from Southern California, the band saw its first line-up (quasi-identical to the present) emerge in 1992. After a demo only (which will then be re-edited by Fat Wreck), Jason Cruz's tape does copying with Fat Mike (NOFX) and signs in '93 deal with the brand-new label created by the latter... We all know what Fat Wreck will become a few years later. Since this year Strung Out has remained faithful is has never left his record company (despite some doubts in '02). Another Day In Paradise ('94) is the first CD released on Fat and it is followed 2 years later by Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues who is smoking and who may have remained the favorite album of a substantial part of the fans. EP Crossroads & Illusions announces a musical turning point for the band that will be confirmed in '99 with the huge Twisted By Design . The combo found its own style (Jim Cherry (RIP) bassist of yesteryear was probably for something since he wrote some songs), a style (often very melodic, technical and fast) sometimes very quickly called "too metal" by people who have only very rarely heard of it. In short, Strung Out seems to be launched on its exciting melodic punk rock track, but the band again surprises its world the following year by leaving EP darker and less conventional, which is worth some criticism. The time for the troupe to make the point as well as a few tours, and here again our happy drills back in '02 to present An American Paradox and its more refined melodies, its less frantic tempos and its digested metal influences. The Live In A Dive released in mid-2003 can in a way be considered a best of Strung Out, not only because there are a lot of tubes, but also because there is the enthusiasm and precision of the band on stage. A year after his live performance, Strung Out returns to the front of the American melodic punk scene with an Exile in Oblivion in the continuity of An American Paradox.
