Stupids
Biography
Tommy Stupid - singing, drums Wolfie Retard - bass, singing Marty Tuff - guitar
Formed in Ipswich in 1984, the Stupids are part of the second punk wave that swept over England in the same way as Discharge, GBH, Heresy or Ripcord. Composed of Tommy Stupid (song/battery), Wolfie Retard (bass/chant) and Marty Tuff (guitar), the band recorded a demo the same year entitled Leave Your Ears Behind which laid the foundations of a very fast hardcore, influenced by the Jerry's Kids or Siege, whose aim is to take each other as seriously as possible. Remarked by Children of the Revolution, the Stupids recorded their first ep, Violent Nun and their first album in 1985. While they are working on Peruvian Vacation's successor, Wolfie leaves the band for the benefit of Ed Shred (the latter will slide later on the guitar). Late Picnic was released in 1986 on the Vinyl Solutions label.
The next two years saw the Stupids shoot in Europe but also in the States and Australia with different line ups around Tommy Stupid. The band reached the height of its fame when Jesus Meets the Stupids was released in 1987, covering NME and Sounds, and recording two sessions for John Peel.
The Stupids stopped any activity after the release of Wipe Out in 1989.
