Biography

Suicidal Tendencies formed in 1982 while Mike Muir (chant) was still a student. Between appearances on some compilations and the release of his first EP (on which is the future tube "I saw your Mummy"), the band soon made talk about him, but not necessarily for their music (they are elected "badest band" by a fanzine, rumors of gang membership, controversy about their name...). However, this helps increase their reputation and they are quickly signed by Frontier Records. After two line-up changes, the band released its first album in 1983, in a punk-hardcore style. Public success and critical to support, Suicidal Tendencies became one of the first hardcore bands to be broadcast on MTV, with their title Institutionalized. But the rumors catch up with the band: ban on playing in Los Angeles and pressure from the US secret services will make the band not release a new album for several years. Finally signed by Caroline Records in 1986, the band can start recording its second album. The arrival in the band, a few years earlier, of guitarist Rocky George makes that Suicidal Tendencies seems to be oriented towards a resolutely more metal style that is not the taste of fans of the first hour. In 1987 they released their second album Join The Army, which contains the bombs War Inside My Head and Possessed To Skate. The band then recruited guitarist Mike Clark and separated from his bassist Louiche Mayorga, who did not agree with the band's musical evolution.
Shortly thereafter, producer Mark Dodson put his hands on Major Columbia's band, on the Epic Records label. 1988 sees the release of the album in the long title How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today, which completely abandons the punk/hardcore style from the beginning to a thrashing metal. The band took the opportunity to release an EP in the following year from former bands of Mike Muir and Mike Clark, Controlled By Hatred/Feel Like Shit... Deja-vu , the band's first production with Robert Trujillo on bass. The arrival of Trujillo in Suicidal Tendencies brings a grain of madness to the group, thanks to its funky bass game. In 1990 the band released Lights Camera Revolution! : striking music and inspired and funny lyrics will make it a classic of the genre. The band then toured with Queensrÿche and Pantera and participated in the Clash Of Titan. In 1991 Mike Muir and Robert Trujillo founded the funk metal group Infectious Grooves.
The following year released the album The Art Of Rebellion, the band's biggest commercial success, but also the most ambitious record in their discography, thanks to a mixture of metal/thrash/prog/funk styles making it unclassifiable. At the height of his glory, Suicidal Tendencies paid the luxury of releasing in 1993 Still Cyco After All These Years , a record composed of versions re-recorded by the current line-up of songs from their first 2 albums. In 1994, the band denied its commercial success and made a radical turnaround by releasing a resolutely thrash album, and which made the difference with the word "fuck" (to the attention of their label who had urged them to release yet another album) long before Limp Bizkit! The critics and audience are mixed, and the album sells much less than their previous productions. In addition, Suicidal Tendencies reached the end of his contract with Epic, and the band members split to play in various musical projects: Mike Muir and Robert Trujillo released the 3rd album of Infectious Groove, Groove Family Cyco, Rocky George will play in the bands Samsara, 40 Cycle Hum and Cro-Mags, while Mike Clark joined Creeper, and Jimmy De Grasso will be recruited by Dave Mustaine to play in MD 45 and Megadeth. Mike Muir will also release a solo album under the name Cyco Miko .
In 1997, Epic will release a best of called Prime Cuts , so-called without the consent of the group, which has the interest of including 2 new unreleased versions and 2 new re-recorded versions (decidently) of old titles.
The same year the band will return, but Mike Muir will only be able to count on Mike Clark to continue the adventure, the other members being taken by their new bands (notably Robert Trujillo with Ozzy Osbourne and later Metallica). The band then recruited Dean Pleasant on guitar and Brooks Wackerman (also members of Infectious Groove), and Josh Paul on bass. Suicidal Records will release a Family&Friends – Epic Escape compilation, composed of new titles by Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves as well as groups of friends (including Creeper , Mike Clark's band).
After a tour in 1998, the Eurockéennes from Belfort will record two live tracks on the EP Six The Hard Way, which appears the same year: the band returns to a style very close to its punk/hardcore debut, to the great happiness of the fans of the first hour. The essay is transformed the following year with the album Freedumb which applies the same recipe, even if the critical success is not at the rendezvous (they will be accused of too simplistic music and lyrics). But fans are still loyal to the band. However in 2000, Suicidal Tendencies once again emerged from the beaten track with his new album Free Your Soul... And Save My Mind , which once again operates a crossover between hardcore, thrash and funk metal: critical success at the key! In 2001, Suicidal Records released a new Family And Friends 2 compilation, and Suicidal Tendencies operates a new break. Mike Muir will release a new album with Infectious Grooves, as well as a second solo album with Cyco Miko.
As early as 2004, rumours of reformations and new album are circulating. Josh Paul and Brooks Wackerman had left the ship in the meantime, and the group appealed to brothers Steve and Ron Brunner, respectively, at bass and drummer positions. An album would be in preparation (as well as for Infectious Grooves ) and to make us wait, Suicidal Tendencies will go through France for a tour in the month of April 2007.
