Sun Kil Moon
Biography
Sun Kil Moon is the latest band from Mark Kozelek, born on the hot ashes of Red House Painters. His first album, Ghosts of the Great Highway (2003), contains titles written during this transition period. True stories of fallen champions (boxing, in particular - Sun Kil Moon derives its name from the Korean Moon Sung-Kil), tragic biographies and various facts of the deep campaign, the songs of Mark Kozelek smell simplicity and reveal a rare narrative talent as can be approached by Nick Cave and other Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. Will Oldham will appear on Sun Kil Moon's 3rd album, April (2008), with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie). While Mark Kozelek continues to release collaborations (with The Album Leaf and Desertshore in 2013) and solo albums (including the pretty Like Rats the same year), Sun Kil Moon remains his main project. The band released its sixth and last album, Benji , in 2014 still with Caldo Verde Records (Retribution Gospel Choir , Jesu ...), a house founded by Kozelek, in the first place to host its own releases.
