Superjoint Ritual
Biography
Superjoint Ritual is an American band mixing Punk Hardcore with the Sludge formed in the early 1990s by linusable and very creative Phil Anselmo ( Down and Pantera) and his friend Jimmy Bower ( Down, Eyehategod, Crowbar). It will take almost 10 years for the band to release first album, Use Once And Destroy, which will be followed in the following year, in 2003 for A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred. Superjoint Ritual is not really a band in its own sense it is rather considered a side-project, since the musicians making up the formation are very busy with their bands. The music is part of the pure HxC of the 80s coming from New Orleans with nevertheless Old School influences of Extreme Metal like Venom, Slayer, Celtic Frost (of which Anselmo is an absolute fan, the proof being the tattoo tribute he has in the back), Voivod and even Darkthrone. Their music sees itself as a stunning, fast and very aggressive cocktail sublimated by the angry voices of the ex-vocalist of Pantera. In 2004 the group split up, due to lack of time and also due to some artistic disagreements. In 2014 this is the big surprise, Superjoint Ritual is reforming for a few dates and announces in 2015 that a third album could be released. The case is obviously to follow, however for legal reasons the formation was renamed Superjoint only. You'll have to wait until the end of 2016 to see the new opus point the tip of its nose, its name? Caught Up In The Gears Of The Application . The themes developed focus mainly on cannabis, violence, alcohol and addiction, a subject that Phil Anselmo unfortunately knows well.
