Swallow The Sun
Biography
Swallow The Sun was born in 2000 at the initiative of Juha Raivio, who wanted to exploit some songs that did not stick with the style of his band Stoner Rock Plutonium Orange, in which he acted as a guitarist. Quickly joined by his competitor Pasi Pasanen (Plutonium Orange drummer), the line-up will be completed the following year with the arrivals of Markus Jämsen (guitarist) and three former members of Black Metal Funeris Nocturnum group: Mikko Kotamäki (singer), Aleski Munter (clavier) and Matti Honkonen (bassist). It takes the band two years to record a first demo, Out Of This Gloomy Light, which will soon be worth a signature at Firebox Records. The recording of a first album began quickly, and The Morning Never Came was released at the end of the year. The success is immediate for the training with dithyrambic critics, notably ranked third at the Finnish Metal Awards 2003 in the category "Best Hope". The band then embarked on a huge one-year tour, including the Tuska Open Air Metal Fest and the Provinssirock. It was early 2005 that the band reinvested the studios to record a new album, Ghost Of Loss, preceded by the single Forgive Her... which will allow, from its release, the formation to become the first band of Finnish Doom to enter the charts. In 2007, Swallow The Sun released its third album, Hope , at Spinefarm Records. It will allow the group to travel European roads with Paradise Lost as well as those of the United States with Katatonia and Insomnia . In 2008 released the first ep of the band, Plague Of Butterflies . Based initially on a concept linking Metal and Ballet, the band finally abandoned this idea considered to be bland. More progressive than ever, and with a room around 35 minutes, he was not always well received by critics. The year 2009 is marked by the departure of Pasi Pasanen, replaced by Kai Hahto ( Wintersun ) with the battery. Under this new line-up comes the fourth Finnish opus, entitled New Moon . This new album reconnects with a dark, beautiful and progressive Doom-Death. By accompanying Katatonia, Swallow The Sun crosses Europe, stopping in France for a series of dates and the famous Hellfest. After a little rest period, the band returns more welded than ever with a new opus, Emerald Forest And The Blackbird , released in early February 2012 via Spinefarm Records.
