Biography

Symphony X took shape in 1994 in New Jersey (USA), when Michael Romeo (guitar) decided to set up a band to follow the demo The Dark Chapter that he recorded alone. He is therefore surrounded by Thomas Miller (bass) and Michael Pinnella (claviers), with whom he has already collaborated. Together, they quickly recruited Jason Rullo (battery) and Rod Tyler (chant). The album Symphony X is recorded as soon as the line-up is complete, and released in 1994 in Japan via the Zero Corporation label. In 1995, the band released The Damnation Game, after replacing their singer with Russell Allen. Although just six months separate the releases of the first two albums, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy will take more than two years to see. This third album is very successful in Japan and allows the Americans to start being distributed in Europe but also at home in the United States. drummer Jason Rullo moved away from the band, and Symphony X took more time to find a replacement than he would stay in the band. Tom Walling, during his brief stay behind the drums, participated in the album Twilight In Olympus, which was released in 1998. That same year, Symphony X had the opportunity to give its first concert, in Japan. It will be followed by a world tour, in which bassist Thomas Miller cannot participate. He eventually left the band (and the musical world) and was replaced by Michael Lepond. V: The New Mythology Suite marks Jason Rullo's return to drums, and the first album with their new bass player. On the following tour, Symphony X recorded her only live album (for now) during their Parisian date. The album The Odyssey marks a certain musical turning point. The group moves a little away from the neoclassical and progressive metal at the Malmsteen, to approach a more energetic, groovy metal. This orientation is both harder and more symphonic, based on the effectiveness of Michael Romeo's riffing. The following two albums, Paradise Lost (2007) and Iconoclast (2011), confirm this direction and go even further towards thrash and heavy, while keeping a very progressive and virtuoso dimension.
