Disembarked from nowhere, to be propelled to the foreground by the British musical press. Symposium is one of these groups announcing a new off-manche scene, a Punk-influenced scene that will make his little roadman in the land of the sacrosanct Pop-Rock.
From the first steps in a Kensington (Western London) school premises to the signing of Infectious Records in May 1996, a small year has passed. However during this period Wojtek joins his four companions and asserts himself as the future composer of the band. Smashing Pumpkins and Beatles are therefore legitimate successors to personal titles in a Power-pop style. Without burning the stages, Symposium is already demonstrating professionalism. As the average age peaked at 18, the band released its first single "Drink the Sunshine" in October and it was then that the media machine came on track: the NME toured them, the Melody Maker bombarded them "best live band" and the famous Top of the Pops offered them a first TV that would make them jaser (for the first time the set is invaded by a wild audience) This follows the very noticed mini-album One Day at a Time in 1997 which gives the band the opportunity to play alongside Foo Fighters, No-Fx or Deftones. The listeners attracted by this new runner led by Baby Chaos , 3 Colours Red or Ash , also remain subdued by the energy deployed - as all the live photos attest - by the combo in concert. Thus with now a solid base of fans behind them, Symposium has to transform the essay of the first album. Waiting almost a year, On the Outside is in the bins early 1998, much wiser, this disc does not stick to the image previously conveyed. For the first time the critics are not at the meeting and unfortunately the end seems already near. In disagreement with the new management, the contract with Infectious and broken. And despite two new productions: the live On the BBC and the EP Killing Position in 1999, the band split in 2000 for musical differences.
With undeniable talent and unforgettable stage performances, Symposium unfortunately remains the very archetype of the fulgurant success followed by the dizzying descent.
Joe Birch and Will McGonagle continued together with Hell Is For Heroes Ross Cummins played in Papercuts before starting a solo career. Wojtek Godzisz the main composer also chose to express himself solo, he signed in 2006 with Tigertrap Records . Hagop Chaparian continues the music under the surname Letter G.
