Tankard
Biography
Tankard is a German group of Thrash Metal, sometimes associated with Kreator, Sodom and Destruction to form the "Big Teutonic 4". The band was founded in 1982 in Frankfurt and was then composed of Andreas "Gerre" Geremia (who briefly held the bass before taking up the position of singer), Frank Thorwarth (song then bass: Gere and he switched their roles shortly after the formation), Oliver Werner (battery) and Bernhard Rapprich (guitare). The latter, however, does not remain, and the two guitarists Andy Boulgaropoulos and Axel Katzmann complete the line-up. The group sees itself as making "Alcoholic Metal", many titles with the theme of alcohol, and particularly beer. After a pair of demos, Tankard signed on the label Noise Records for the release of Zombie Attack in 1986 but only started to shoot after Chemical Invasion (1987), while their popularity increased further with The Morning After (1988). In 1989, shortly after the recording of EP Alien, drummer Oliver Werner was replaced by Arnulf Tunn, who remained for two albums until 1993 when disagreements led to his departure and the arrival of Olaf Zissel. In 1994 appeared Two-Faced , as well as an album of covers of German songs under the name of Tankwart . The following year, guitarist Alex Katzmann left the band for health reasons; Tankard then chose to continue as a quartet. The Tankard (1995) is the latest release of Noise Records; Disco Destroyer was published in 1998 on the Century Media Records label. 98 also marked the start of guitarist Andy Boulgaropoulos, replaced by Andy Gutjahr (ex- Creed, ex- Lightmare). Note that the line-up has not moved since then. A single album was released by Century Media (Kings Of Beer, 2000), before a signature by AFM Records, a label on which five works appeared, from the anniversary album B-Day in 2002 to Vol(l)ume 14 in 2010. However, AFM still publishes a compilation in 2018, Hymns For The Drunk , dedicated to these five releases. The band's last three albums were released by Nuclear Blast Records: A Girl Called Cerveza in 2012, R.I.B. in 2014 and One Foot In The Grave in 2017.
