Biography

The story of Ted Leo begins at the end of '80, in New York, where he evolves in groups oriented towards a hardcore scene, namely Animal Crakers, and Citizen's Arrest. In 1990, he decided to leave New York for Washington, where he founded Chisel, of which he was the leader. Two albums will be released on Gern Blandsten Records ( Dälek, Radio 4 ): 8 A.M All Day, and Set You Free. The latter will end the combo career in '97. For two years, Ted Leo will become the guitarist of The Spinanes , before founding Sin Eaters with his brother Danny Leo on drums. Unfortunately, Danny left the training to set up his own project: The Holy Childhood. Ted Leo then found himself alone in '98, and thus began his solo career. He does some shows occasionally, while producing Secret Star. Then he came to record his own record in '99, still on Gern Blandsten, accompanied by The Pharmacists, which includes members of Secret Star, namely Jody Buonanno, but also the drummer of The Warmers, and finally James Canty (Make Up, Nation Of Ulysses). This collaboration will continue with a Split CD that same year with One A.M. Radio . In spring 2000, Ted Leo And The Pharmacists released Trouble In Treble on Ace Fu Records ( Kaiser Chiefs, Man Man ); Then came The Tyranny Of Distance in 2001, but this time at LookOut! Records ( Engine Down , Troubled Hubble ). Two years later, the co-training will release its third effort: Hearts Of Oak. The latter will be recorded after James Canty's departure. There were no fewer than 5 tours across the Atlantic, followed by Great Britain and Japan. In 2004, Ted Leo And The Pharmacists delivered Shake The Sheets , produced by Chris Shaw ( Bob Dylan , Dashboard Confessional ). 2006 sees the signature at Touch and Go records following Lookout's financial difficulties! , and the band continues to play intensively while preparing Living with the Living (2007), the band's fifth album. The Pharmacists will shoot with beautiful bands for the promotion of this album ( Against Me , Pearl Jam , Future of the Left , ...), and release in 2010 the Brutalist Bricks , while continuing their way by signing at Matador records !
