Textures
Biography
Textures is a Dutch band formed in 2001 on the Tilburg side by Bart Hennephof, Stef Broks, Dennis Aarts and Richard Rietdijk under the leadership of Jochem Jacobs, guitarist and main composer of the combo. The band quickly recorded a first album, Polars, which was released in 2003, in which the band developed its musical and visual concept. Between polyrhythmic attacks at Meshuggah and lyrical flights at Devin Townsend Band, Textures quickly received praise from critics. The group was awarded the most promising group in 2004. An important tour, including the Lowlands and Furyfest festivals, ends up building the band's reputation. At the dawn of writing a second album, Textures recruits a new singer, Eric Kalsbeek, whose vocal abilities and creativity are felt on Drawing Circles released in 2006. Again, the group receives praiseful criticism and the Bataves are definitely one of the most interesting European groups of the moment. Tours with The Ocean , Gojira , All That Remains or Arch Enemy have been running for several months. At the end of 2007, Remko Tielemans joined the band as a bass player and participated in the development of the new album, Silhouettes , which will be released in 2008: a record where one discovers a band more welded than ever. 2010 marks a turning point in the band's history, during the preparation of his fourth album, the original singer Eric Kalsbeek leaves the band to devote himself to his personal life (he is replaced by Daniel De Jongh), as well as keyboardist Richard Rietdijk who turned to other musical horizons. Uri Dijk, originally a live musician for the band, will take over in September. January 2011 Textures begins recording his new album in the Split Second Sound studios in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dualism is released in September via Nuclear Blast. In 2013, the band's founding guitarist, Jochem Jacobs, announced his departure from the band, after 12 years of activity, to devote himself entirely to the production of bands in his studio, Split Second Sound, in Amsterdam. We will have to wait until early 2016 to see Textures produce a record, Phenotype , the first part of a double album, whose sequel and end, Genotype , will be released the year after.
