The Business
Biography
Formed in 1979 by Steven ('Steve') Kent (guitar), Michael Fitzsimons ('Micky Fitz') (song), Nicholas ('Nick') Cunningham (battery) and Martin Smith (bass), The Business is one of the founding groups of the Oi movement.
After a first concert in February 1980, the combo released a first title for a compilation A Sudden Surge of Sound, which allowed them to open for The 4-Skins in 1981.
While the Oi scene is associated with racist and extremist movements, the combo starts its tour of Oi Against Racism and Political Extreme ...But Still Against The System, before releasing a first single Harry May at the end of 1981.
A first line-up change took place at the end of the same year, but the combo did not admit defeated and occurred as a quartet from 1982.
He followed the EP Smash the Discos and the album Loud, Proud and Punk (re-recorded after a different album with their label of the time). However, The Business throws sponge soon after, its members focusing on other ephemeral projects (Chapter or Sabre Dance for example).
After the release of a compilation of demos/lives in 1985, The Business reformed and their Wonderful Records label released several records from the combo. Yet, barely a year later, the musicians separated again until 1992 at a concert for Bobby Moore.
In 1994, Keep the Faith was born, followed by various tours and new albums, alternating between different labels and with a line-up in the form of Micky Fitz (chant), Steve Whale (guitar), Lol Proctor (bass) and Micky Fairbairn (battery).
