The Chameleons
Biography
The Chameleons is a separate entity in the 1980s British Post Punk/ New Wave nebula. Somewhat relegated to second place by the tenors of the time, the quartet founded in 1981 on the side of Middleton still enjoys a critical success and infallible esteem without having truly recognized the success of its contemporaries. Very active from 1981 to 1987, the English recorded three studio albums and saw a significant number of their stage performances - reputed - captured, edited and reissued even after the abrupt cessation of their activities following the death of Tony Fletcher, their manager of the time. One can count to their credit the 1983 release of Script of the Bridge, a first album today cult that lays the foundations of a singular Cold Wave and of which bands like Interpol or The Horrors still claim. Reformed for three short years at the dawn of the 2000s, The Chameleons will again be very productive with an album of acoustic reinterpretations, a Live known as their best recording of the genre and a new studio album (This Never Ending Now).
