The Coma Lilies
Biography
Michael Spector (guitar/claviers) and Chris Votek (bass) met in high school in 2001 and formed The Coma Lilies. These Californier South of Santa Rosa are soon joined by childhood friends; Hunter Ellis (guitar), Gabe Katz (battery) and Asher Katz (claviers), all of whom are already from two formations (Shat and Sex Goddess). Their music evolves towards a post-rock completely offset, destructured, instrumental, both progressive and psychedelic. They released their first mini-album in self-production, Laughing Gas Opera in 2003. It was not until April 2004, at the age of 18, that they recorded, with Rager Tschann of Studios Grizzly, their real first album, the eponymous The Coma Lilies. That same year Chris Votek gave up bass to Brian Kincaid and followed a long California tour. They come back in 2006 with their ultimate and most mature effort, the EP Memento Mori . The latter follows the same line as their previous album with nevertheless a more present influence for electronic music and many interludes-délisers. They put online via MySpace a last demo before separating in 2008 and Memento Mori is then re-published after their split on Denovali Records (Blueneck , Celeste , Heirs ...). Some members are in a new formation, My Dads. Among the major influences of the group are Aphex Twin, Tool, The Dilliger Escape Plan, NIN, Pixies, Danny Elfman, Mozart and many others.
