Biography

The Cranberries band was born in the late 1980s, first known as Cranberry Saw Us in Limerick, Ireland. Trained by Dolores O'Riordan (recruited after the departure of the original singer) with singing, guitar and keyboards, from Feargal Lawler to drums and percussions, from Noël Hogan to guitar and his brother Mick Hogan to bass, the line up has not moved since then. They released a mini-album in 1992, a thousand copies of which he went back to Dublin, where Island Records decided to sign the band. They then released a first single Uncertain , the press does not follow them, problems with their producer brings the band to the edge of the split but finally the band changes producer (Stephen Street who has already worked with The Smith , big influence of the band). With Irish-style Celtic music, The Cranberries delivers us a rock that knows how to make itself hard or melody at will and it was in 1993 with their first "real" album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? that the band exploded in the charts. The beginnings are timid, the first single chosen Dreams does not make a recipe, the second single will have a very different destiny, Linger arrives in summer/fall 1993, the clip loops on MTV and their album becomes double platinum in the USA before the end of the year and will install at the top of the charts in England in early 1994. In 1994 the band's favourite year, Dolores O'Riordan married the tour manager of the band and The Cranberries released No Need To Argue in which Zombie and Ode To My Familly were found, the album did better than the previous one and reached the 3 million copies sold in the USA. During the tour following this release rumors about the departure of Dolores circulate but in 1996 the band proves that it is still there when leaving To The Faithful Departed, the success is not up to the two previous ones but the album still reaches the million copies sold. The band will cancel its European and Australian tour which will only fuel rumors of split, however in 1999 the band returned with a new album Bury The Hatchet then Wake Up And Smell The Coffee in 2001. At the end of 2002, Dolores O'Riordan announced that she wished to leave the band to carry out her solo projects, thus confirming the rumours existing for several years. In 2003 the band left its record company (after the release of a best of) and since no news. Members are involved in their solo projects ( Mono Band, Dolores, ...).
