The Distillers
Biography
Last known line-up : Guitar / Song : Brody Dale Guitar : Tony Bradley Bass : Ryan Sinn Battery : Andy Granelli
The Australian Brody Dalle, born in Melbourne, debuts in punk rock with the dark band Sourpuss. In 1998, she moved to Los Angeles where she founded The Distillers with bassist Kim "Chi" Fuelleman. They connect with drummer Matt Young and guitarist Rose Casper. The quartet likes good punk rock and good beer and it gets along pretty fast. With a contract on Epitaph's Hellcat Records label, the band released its first album simply titled The Distillers in 2000. In 2001, Brody Dalle married Rancid's guitarist Tim Armstrong. But the band breaks down, Fuelleman and Young joining the band The Original Sinners of ex-singer X, Exene Cervenka. Brody also separates from Rose Casper who struggles with his drug addiction. Ryan Sinn then took the bass and Andy Outbreak the drums to make the band a power trio. Sing Sing Death House , The Distillers' second album appeared in 2002 with the simple "Seneca Falls" as its standard. We soon evoke the music of Rancid and Courtney Love's near-tuberculosis voice at the beginning of Hole to characterize the sound of The Distillers. At the end of 2002, Brody divorced Tim Armstrong and returned to his original name. Then the band hired guitarist Tony Bradley and Andy Granelli replaced Andy Outbreak with the drums. The formation thus constituted recorded Coral Fang which was launched in 2003 on the label Sire Records, a subsidiary of Warner. His bloody pouch, accompanied by illustrations from the booklet, will be censored in some stores. The record worn by a catchy "Drain The Blood" assures them a great success even if the band moves somewhat away from the punk rock spheres, turning even with Garbage and No Doubt. Unfortunately, drummer Andy Granelli left the band in February 2005, and bass player Ryan Sinn announced his departure in August, apparently dissatisfied with the music direction adopted. Brody Dalle has other cats to whip. She appeared as a vocal guest, alongside her girlfriend Shirley Manson, on the Lullabies To Paralyse of Queens Of The Stone Age, the band of her boyfriend Josh Man. In September, we even learned that the couple were waiting for their first child. Nevertheless, a new album by The Distillers is still being planned.
