
The Flaming Lips
Biography
Born in Oklahoma and a barred music supplier since 1983, The Flaming Lips has been on its way in the 1990s, building its reputation through indie psychedelic albums, influenced by the Sci-Fi, over-arching and musically ambitious and thanks to live performances that are more like a real show (costumes, puppets, confetti, complex lights). Little wonder, then, that Q magazine named them among the 50 bands to see on stage before dying. The band even has a street in his name in Oklahoma City.
Group underground cult, which translates into a consistent discography in the 80's and 90's, The Flaming Lips became known by signing on a major (Warner Bros) in 1990 (after almost burning an entire street because of the pyrotechnic effects used in a show) and has since dragged an eccentric reputation among its congeners. Among the flagship albums are The Soft Bulletin (1999 - which sees the band widely use electronic effects) and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (2002 - which is their first commercial success).
The latest album, Embryonic , was released in 2009.
