Biography

Karl Simon founded The Gates of Slumber on the ashes of The Keep at the end of 1998, with the aim, it seems, of offering something other than the Stoner, very popular at the time. For more information, the name is taken from the Compo Gates of Slumber on Cianide's A Descent into Hell album. The beginnings are not easy, and it takes almost two years for a line-up to be kept long enough to record a first demo, Blood Encrusted Deth Axe. Unfortunately, this stability will only be apparent as the group disintegrates shortly thereafter. It was in 2002 that he resurfaced with a new line-up and a new demo, Sabbath Witch, which received an enthusiastic welcome. For the anecdote, the demo cover is a collage that mixes the artwork of the eponymous album of Black Sabbath with that of Die Healing de Saint Vitus. As a result, he directed the scene, with a first concert in 2003. The Born Too Late Fest (Unarthly Trance , Revelation , Pale Divine ...) and the Doomination Tour (Mourning Beloveth , The Prophecy , Orodruin ...), which will be marked by new upheavals within the formation. This does not, however, prevent the release of a new demo in 2004, The Cloaked Figure, and then a first album entitled The Awakening, which was released after a Belgian signature by Final Chapter. This is the beginning of a period of intense activity for the band that signed two EPs between 2005 and 2006, Like a Plague Upon the Land and God Wills It, closely followed by a new opus, entitled Suffer No Guilt. A compilation of rarity was created in 2007; Note that his title, Villain Villain, is a parody of Hero Hero de Judas Priest. Three splits will follow, respectively in the company of The Dream is Dead, Spiritus Mortis and Crowing Glory, sort of put in the mouth before the release of the band's third album, titled Conqueror. It is a concept-album about Conan le Barbare, a recurring figure in The Gates of Slumber music. This record will be followed by an EP, The Ice Worms Lair, and then by a kind of best-of. It was in 2009 that the fourth opus of the formation came out under the title of Hymns of Blood and Thunder. Line-up : Karl Simon (guitar / singing) Jason McCash (bass) "Iron" Bob Fouts (battery)
