The Get Up Kids
Biography
The history of the now famous combo begins in '94 in Kansas City, USA as a quartet. The only change since the beginning of the band was drummer Nathan Shay who left his place to Ryan Pope (Robert Pope's brother, bassist of the band). By common accord, Matthew Pryor (chant/guitar) quickly took the reins, letting Jim Suptic focus on his guitar and nevertheless push the song on some songs... The group's first late appearances (3 years after the formation) were due to incessant tours in the early years in order to be able to record in decent conditions. After a short passage on the label Huey Proudhon, Doghouse Records soon recovered the talented musicians to release the EP Woodson, the album Four Minute Mile (which earned the band its first beautiful recognition) and finally the EP Red Letter Day. Then the group goes to the 'upper level' by signing a contract with Vagrant. Something To Write Home About (which sees the arrival of James Dewees, who later formed Reggie&The Full Effect, on the keyboard) made them all known in the 'emo punk' medium and The Get Up Kids became one of the most esteemed bands in this scene. The album of rarity and unreleased Eudora comes out in '01 and it will therefore take to combo no less than 3 years before finally giving a real successor to STWHA (due mainly to long tours with Weezer and Green Day): On A Wire was born in May 2002. Since the members are a little scattered (Matthew Pryor stung on his side project The New Amsterdams ), some have bought a recording studio (The Black Lodge) in Kansas City; But all this beautiful world finds itself throughout the second half of '03 to record Guilt Show which comes out in early 2004. After an amazing radio silence, the band announced the release of a live album (for 24 May '05) and in March 2005 it formalized its separation. The band's last concert will be in Kansas City, on the weekend of 04 July '05.
