The Juliana Theory
Biography
Brett Detar: Song Chad Alan: Bass Josh Fiedler: Guitar Josh Kosker: Guitar Josh Walters: Battery
Of course, any training has a starting point. The Juliana Theory's is no other than Zao, a combo with many musical facets, but very inspired by Christian beliefs. Brett Detar was the author and second guitarist at the time, and decided to set up a side-project plus "pop". The Juliana Theory was formed in the summer of '97, in the Latrobe region (Pennsylvania), as a quintet influenced by the alternative rock scene of the late 1990s, and eventually became a full-time band. Detar then leaves Zao on good terms.
Then released their first opus, a Split EP shared with Dawson High, which will be released on Arise Records. Detar and his peers were noticed very quickly, thanks to their live performances, and then signed by Tooth And Nail Records ( Further Seems Forever , Underoath ), and this for several albums. Their very first full-length, Understand This Is A Dream, will be released in March '99, and will follow many dates with such formations as Coheed And Cambria , Glassjaw , before surveying the scene of the Warped Tour. The year 2000 marks the return of the combo to the studio, to record a Split CD with the guys of The Gray AM, and OneLineDrawing , a solo project by Jonah Matranga ( Far , New End Original , Gratitude ). This album will be published via the label OneDaySavior ( Paulson , Remembering Never ,...) in 2001 only, in the same way as their Ep Music From Another Room .
Previously, in 2000, TJT had the opportunity to release the centerpiece of its discography, Emotion is Dead, often compared, and not wrongly, to Clarity by Jimmy Eat World. Then comes the period of weariness, where TJT reshuffles all forms of labels, and thus degrades its dress appearance. In the end, this behavior will not dissuade some majors like Epic / Sony who sign them and allow them to release Love in 2002. The mayonnaise does not take, and after delivering a last opus for Tooth And Nail, live 10.13.2001, The Juliana Theory creates its own structure: Paper Fist Records.
After 8 years of career, the quintet released its 4th opus in February 2005 via Paper Fist , but also Abacus Recordings ( Planes Mistaken For Stars , Swarm Of The Lotus ,...). The album is produced by John Travis (Social Distortion, Kid Rock ) and co-produced by Brett Detar. He also benefits from the mixing work of Joe Barresi (QOTSA , Rancid ). Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat, which members of the band summarize to an anti-Love, will be recorded almost entirely in live conditions, except for the sung parts taken in the frontman's studio. Moreover, this opus sees the appearance of Dan Weyandt, singer of Zao. In short, the loop is closed...
