Biography
Markus Acher : Guitar/Chant Michael Acher : Basse Martin Messerschmidt : Martin Gretschmann Battery : Programming
The Notwist was formed in 1989 in Weilheim (Germany) by the Acher brothers and Mecki Messerschmidt. Barely a year of existence and the quartet already records an eponymous debut album released by Subway Records. Two years went by before the band recorded a second effort, Nook, released this time at Big Store Records. After a clear beginning in the middle of 'extreme' rock, The Notwist, with 12 (1995), has become more involved in electronica culture; They will also enlist Martin Greschmann to better explore and exploit these new sounds. After signing a deal with the American distributor Zero Hour, the Germans will reissue 12 before releasing Shrink in 1998, then the highlight of their discography, Neon Golden , in 2002 on Domino ( Four Tet , Animal Collective , Sebadoh ,...).
Next to this, the quartet collaborates with their comrades of Themselves within the 13 & God project, whose first eponymous effort is published in 2005 on their own label, Alien Transistor Records ( Fog , Boy In Static ,...). Markus Acher is also at the line-up of his compatriots from Lali Puna; while Martin Messerschmidt plays drums in Schweisser and his homonym embarks on a solo career with the Console project.
