The Obsessed
Biography
The Obsessed is one of the American pioneers of the Doom Metal, alongside Saint Vitus, Trouble or Pentagram, all influenced by Black Sabbath, and famous for being Wino's main project, legendary frontman within the Doom sphere. It all started in 1977 when Scott "Wino" Weinrich formed a band with Mark Laue (bass), John Reese (guitar) and Dave "Dan the Slave" Williams (drums). Reese quickly left the adventure, followed a while later by Williams, replaced by Ed "Dameon" Gulli. They choose Warhorse as their surname. Between 1980 and 1985, the band - now called The Obsessed - recorded in its corner three demos and an EP, but was especially noticed thanks to its victory at a Battle of the Bands at the Baltimores Marble Bar and its presence on the compilation of Metal Blade Metal Massacre VI, with the title Concrete Cancer. The group even ends up separating when Wino chooses to join Saint Vitus . It was in 1990 that The Obsessed resurfaced thanks to the label of Saint Vitus Hellhound Records that released an eponymous album composed of former recordings, which decided Wino to reform his former band, signed for the occasion at Hellhound Records. Lunar Womb was born the following year, always in a relative anonymity. After many changes of line-up, The Obsessed signs at Colombia Records and releases The Church Within . Although praised by the critics, Wino finally chose to put an end to the band after this opus, definitely this time. A best of Incarnate will be released in 1999, followed by a split tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd with The Mystick Krewe of Clearlight, which will be released in 2003. Wino will continue his path by founding Spirit Caravan , Place of Skulls and The Hidden Hand , truly marking the Doom world with its imprint.
