The Ocean
Biography
It was in 2000 that Robin Staps, perhaps tired of his previous projects, went to Berlin to try to concretize an idea that he cared about. Like what the members of Neurosis had impulsed with Tribes Of Neurot, he wanted to create an artistic collective, in order to find the artists that corresponded to him and thus be able to use all his ideas. With the arrival of his first companions, the guitarist installs a recording studio and premises in an old factory, so that he can be in good conditions to start creating. Nicknamed Oceanland, because of its size, the band's new promenade thus passed on its name: The Ocean. After two self-produced demos and a few concerts, the entity signs on the label Make My Day Records which allows it to release its first album, Fogdiver , which receives a very good welcome, but does not exceed German borders. This disc allows the collective to rode its stage performances before releasing a second Fluxion disc, in a style lorging on the side of a threatening and energetic post-hardcore to the atmospheres worked, which will be worth the formation of comparisons with Neurosis , Isis , or Breach in particular. It was in 2005 that Aeolean and a split cd came out with Burst, on the band's new label, Metal Blade Records, in a much more angry style and bringing back to a metal even more in the current standards.
