It was in Orange County, in the suburbs of Los Angeles, that in 1984 a man named Dexter Holland decided with his friend Greg Kiesel (bassist) to set up a Punk band. Dexter is then drummer, they are looking for a guitarist to already have the band's musical base. After some research, they recruited Kevin Wasserman aka Noodles, not for his guitar skills, but because he was a major, he could buy beer. After meeting a drummer, James Lilja, they integrated him into the band; Dexter is forced to sing. The Manic Suicidal group is one of the (many) precursors of Californian Punk.
In 1987, Ron Welty took the place of drummer, the band then became The Offspring and released his first demo.
They will release their first eponymous album in 1989 and Ignition in 1992, but will remain in the shadows for five years or less. It was in 1994 that Smash , a revealing album for the band, came out, with 11 million albums sold worldwide (the biggest album sale on an independent label to date). In 1997 follows Ixnay On The Hombre , an unjustly unknown masterpiece because of a mixed reception by the "Smashian" public. A year later Americana arrived, an album confirming the success of the band by selling as much as with Smash; as a result (and also because of some changing directions on the part of the "rejeton"), Americana was strongly criticized and The Offspring was immediately catalogued among the bands "for the kids". The Offspring will be released Conspiracy Of One in 2000 in the vein of Americana, also making a full board, and in 2003 a new event occurred in the band's life: Ron Welty's departure for reasons of fatigue, just before the recording of Splinter. It is the excellent Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle , Vandals , Infectious Grooves , among others) that will record the battery on Splinter offering us a very lively and powerful game. Alas, Josh Freese has other bands to his credit, so he will be replaced by Atom Willard ( Rocket From The Crypt , Melissa Auf Der Maur ) until Pete Parada replaces him in 2007. Since Splinter, the band released a best of in 2005 and saw the departure of its third guitarist Christophe Higgins the same year, but we come back with surprise in 2008 with its new opus: Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace.
