The Postal Service
Biography
The name of The Postal Service alone is the collaboration between Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie ) and Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel , Figure ), which is a repeated exchange of mails and mailings, Jim sending the electronic instrumental parts, and Ben supplementing them with guitar lines, singing and of course lyrics.
An association that first took shape through Jimmy's solo project, in this case Dntel , including the first album released in 2001, Life Is Full Of Possibilties , saw the participation of artists such as Chris Gunst ( Beachwood Sparks ), Rachel Haden ( That Dog , Jimmy Eat World , The Rentals ,...), Brian McMahan (Slint , The For Carnation ) and finally the so-called Benjamin Gibbard for an anthology "(This Is) The Dream Of Evan And Chan". From there, the duo decided to continue the adventure and joined the services of Jen Wood ( Tattle Tale ), Jenny Lewis ( Rilo Kiley ) and Chris Walla ( DCFC , Nada Surf , The Decemberists ) in order to lay a very first album in February 2003 via Sub Pop Records ( Band Of Horses , Iron And Wine , ...) : Give Up . The previous month released a first EP, Such Great Heights, followed by a second in July of the same year, The District Sleeps Alone Tonight, and a third in February 2005 this time, We Will Become Silhouettes.
Finally, it should be noted that in July 2007 the recovery of the Phil Collins standard group, "Against All Odds", was elected eighth best of all time by the New York Post.
