The Proletariat
Biography
Peter Bevilacqua - Bass, hearts Richard Brown - Chant Frank Michaels - Guitar Tom McKnight - Battery
The Proletariat was born in the early 1980s in Fall River, Massachusetts, Boston, a country dedicated to Hardcore. Logically influenced by the ambient musical and social climate, the quartet directs its first steps towards the Punk Hardcore but quickly marks in the local landscape by integrating sounds and influences foreign to their native scene. Concerts with Black Flag , Circle Jerks , Bad Brains , Minor Threat , Dead Kennedys , Husker Du , Jerry's Kids or Negative Approach testify to their commitment to the latter as much as they will prove to be decoys: The Proletariat plays Punk Hardcore with a sound imported from Great Britain. Already very present in the first combo album, Soma Holiday , this singular characteristic is further reinforced for the second and final record of the quartet that was released in 1985 just a few weeks before the implosion of the formation. Three of the original members will return to the adventure ten years later with Churn , an ephemeral band that will last only two years but will manage to release a 5-track Mini LP titled Heated Couplings In The Sun (which is also the name of a title of... Gang of Four ).
