The Subways
Biography
The Subways is a family story first. Billy Lunn (Guitare / Chant) and his younger brother Josh Morgan (Battery) bathe from their youngest age in music, with great strokes of AC/DC, The Carpenters, Ramones, The Beatles or the T-Rex, but it's after listening to Supersonic from Oasis that Billy starts playing guitar. Believing to calm Billy's ardour, the parents offered Josh a battery. A lost pain, the two brothers agreed perfectly, and Billy decided at the same time to teach Charlotte Cooper, her best friend at the time, to play bass to set up a band. From then on, the band, named Mustardseed turn, then Platypus, made some dates in the surrounding cities (notably at Harlow Square (Essex), and even recorded a live show that he would sell at the end of their shows. Their growing reputation, Billy decides to change the band's name one last time: The Subways is finally born. From then on, they channel the demos they broadcast on the London circuit, insisting that it is the band that records them. Billy even mounts their first website, and puts there the 8 demos that they have done so far as a free download to facilitate exchanges with London developers ... initiative that bears fruit: The Subways starts to shoot in London. But their career took a decisive turn when they decided to send a record to Michael Eavis, one of the organizers of the Glastonbury Festival, who was looking for an unsigned band to play on the Other Stage. The band is immediately caught, and is propelled into one of the biggest European festivals. The Subways continues on their launch with the Carling Week-End, another huge English festival, and their first tour: 35 dates across the UK. At only 20 years on average, the band finally signed on a label at the end of 2004, Infectious Records, and recorded their first album in Liverpool with Ian Broudie ( Lightning Seeds ) in production. Young For Eternity released on July 4, 2005 and as a result, their reputation is growing: Japan, Europe, Australia, North America (where the album was released on February 14, 2006), no continent resists this refreshing wave of rock'n Roll with a grungy trend. But in February 2006, it was the tragedy: Billy fell ill, nodules were diagnosed on his vocal cords. The band was obliged to cancel its tour (which extended until the end of June). It's not counting on Billy's determination to recover slowly, but surely from his infection. The Subways thus resumes the concerts from June 16, when they perform a secret concert at the Green Room in Welwyn Garden City (their hometown), under the pseudonym of The Audrey Hepburns; 18 June, the first part of the Foo Fighters in Manchester. The resumption of their show this summer is also marked by their participation in Lollapalooza, a huge American festival. Their second album, All Or Nothing appeared in 2008 and was produced by Butch Vig (Nirvana , Smashing Pumpkins , Sonic Youth ). Charlotte and Billy split during the recording of this second album and outside of a few concerts, the band will only make little promotion. In the fall of 2009, they took some rest to write immediately a third album surrounded by Stephen Street (Smiths , New Order , Blur ) and that's how Money&Celebrity was born at the end of 2011. For their fourth album, The Subways chose self-production.
