The War On Drugs
Biography
After 8 years of existence, it seems that in 2011 The War on Drugs finally found its formula. From quintet to the release of the first album Wagonwheel Blues, the band became trio when Slave Ambient was released. It is not to mention the parade of musicians who have gravity during all these years around Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile , the two founding members. Definitely anchored in the 70's (Kurt Vile's solo folk is an additional testimony if needed), the two artists pay tribute to Bruce Springteen and Bob Dylan, who also revisited their sauce, the evolution of US pop folk and Americana to the big means. After an eponymous demo, the first EP, Barrel of Batteries, was released in 2006. Then appeared the logical extension, two years later, with Wagonwheel Blues which gave them a certain legitimacy on the stage, thanks to the sponsorship of the label Secretly Canadian ( Animal Collective , Foreign Born , jj , Yeasayer ...). The Philadelphia band then toured all over the country, with The Capitol Years . At the end of 2008, Kurt Vile and drummer Charlie Hall left the band, the first to focus on a solo career (which culminated in 2011 with Smoke Ring for My Halo). However, the return to a more classical training does not seem to have any hold: Slave Ambient and its retro/psych effects have nothing to envy to his predecessor. defined
