Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers
Biography
A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of genius, Tom Petty played first in a project called The Epics, in the late 1960s, then in the Southern Rock Mudcrutch band. He plays bass and is one of the two vocalists. The band split in 1975 without producing a single album. Tom then decided to pursue his solo career, and that's when his career really started. With a few musicians from his previous band, he made the legendary Rock band, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. The band's current line-up consists of Tom Petty on guitar and singing, Mike Campbell (Guitare / Mandoline), Steve Ferrone (Battery), Scott Thurston (Guitare / Claviers, Harmonica), Ron Blair (Basse / Chant) and Benmont Tench (Piano / Chant). Tom and his "heartbreakers" released their first album, an eponymous album, in 1976. First released in the United States, the album sells little, but after a tour in Great Britain, the album appears in the English charts and the single Anything That One year after its release in the States, and several praiseworthy reviews, the album became a golden record. Two other singles will make a cult album: American Girl and Breakdown. Their second effort, You!re Gonna Get It!, appeared in 1978, and became their first record d'or, even before their eponymous album, released a year and a half earlier, then the consecration arrived the following year. The band does not stop composing and shooting and so their third album, Damn The Torpedos , becomes the album that propels them to the top of Rock music. The album ranks 2nd for seven weeks at the Billboard, behind Pink Floyd's undefeated The Wall. It becomes a platinum album very quickly after its release, selling more than two million copies including the singles Refugee, Don的t Do Me Like That and H are Comes My Girl. In 1981 Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers joined Cherokee Studios to produce their fourth album, Hard Promises . In 1985, they participated in Live AID in Philadelphia. The same year, they released Southern Accent, with a hit single, Don的t Come Around Here No More produced by a Dave Stewart. The subsequent tour was recorded and released as the band's first live album. Pack Up The Plantation: Live! The band then toured with Bob Dylan and The Greatful Dead. They then released a new opus, in 1987, Let Me Up (I In 1988, Tom Petty decided to set up a super band called Traveling Wilburys, composed of rock legends such as Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne. The following year Tom Petty released his first real solo album, although helped by many of his collaborators of the time. The Heartbreakers reshaped two years later and produced Into The Great Wide Open, their eighth album. Once again, the single learning To Fly hits and the eponymous title will make it an important album. The band then left their MCA Records label for Warner Bros. One last album, Greatest Hits will be released, with a bonus, two new hits, Mary Jane Last Dance and Something In The Air, a cover by Thunderclap Newman. Tom Petty being busy on his solo project, the band only gave life in 1996 with the recording of She's The One's B.O, then Echo in 1999 produced by Rick Rubin, with the singles Room At The Top and Free Girl Now. The Last Dj , severely criticizing the world of music, was released in 2002. The following years Tom Petty was busy with his radio show, his third solo album, his new band Mudcrutch and the various concerts. It was only in 2009 that The Live Anthology appeared, three records compiling live songs from the last three decades.
