Transatlantic
Biography
Transatlantic is a super-group formed in 1999 in Millbrook, USA around Neal Morse (then still frontman of Spock's Beard) singing and keyboard, Roine Stolt singing and guitar (The Flower Kings), Pete Trewavas bass (Marillion, Edison's Children) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater drummer at the time of the events). Although it was originally only a side project for its members, the band released two discs on the spot: SMPT:e in 2000 and Bridge Across Forever in 2001. Each album is accompanied by a tour, and during the concerts, Daniel Gildenlöw (Bread Of Salvation) is the fifth wheel of the coach (second guitar, second keyboard, choirs), to perfect the "all-star" side of the band. Each of these two tours results in a live release. In 2002, following the revelation of his faith, Neal Morse left Spock's Beard and Transatlantic to devote himself to a solo career focused on religious themes. The band went into hiatus, but the frontman continued to work very regularly with Mike Portnoy, who would record the drums on his solo albums and in almost all of his future projects and bands. During Neal Morse's concerts during this period, Transatlantic's titles are regularly performed. In August 2008, Roine Stolt joined Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy at a frontman's solo concert to play two Transatlantic titles. This three-quarter meeting led to a real return of the entire group: early 2009 was formalized and The Whirlwind was released at the end of the same year. The album contains a single track of more than an hour and a quarter. Daniel Gildenlöw once again joined the supergroup for the tour, the first to be held in America and Europe, the first to be actually transatlantic. In 2013, Neal Morse (and Mike Portnoy playing for him) played with The Flower Kings , and it was once again an opportunity to play Transatlantic titles with Roine Stolt. Later that year, the band announced that it was recording a fourth album. Kaleidoscope is released in January 2014. Since Daniel Gildenlöw is not available for medical reasons, it is Ted Leonard ( Spock's Beard , Enchant ) who acts as a session musician for the following tour (from which KaLIVEoscope will be drawn). Each with other projects, the quartet takes seven years to come together to release two versions of the same album: The Absolute Universe - The Breath Of Life, and The Absolute Universe - Forevermore.
