Biography

Michael Trent Reznor was born on May 17, 1965 in Mercer, Pennsylvania. He is a songwriter, musician and producer. He spent his childhood in Mercer, raised from the age of five by his grandparents. Quiet and discreet, Trent Reznor began playing the piano very young under the influence of his grandfather. He continued his studies, became passionate about music and entered Allegheny College to study computer science. He frequented various bands such as Option 30, The Problems or The Urge, then began to write in 1986 the first songs of Nine Inch Nails, very interested in electronic music and the Indus carried by the success of Skinny Puppy and Ministry. His career as a producer began in 1994. He produced Marilyn Manson's album Portrait Of An American Family. Just before Nine Inch Nails toured Europe alongside the Reverend, director Oliver Stone contacted him to propose that he work on the soundtrack of his latest film Natural Born Killers. Reznor accepts and focuses on editing during the NIN tour, while watching the film more than fifty times. The goal being to create a fluid soundtrack, respecting the rhythm and chronology of the story and including dialogues of the film, while using titles already published. There is a multitude of artists from all walks of life like Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Dr. Dre or Janes Addiction. Note that the title of Burn by Nine Inch Nails was specially written for the film. The following year, he produced Marilyn Manson's second album: Smells Like Children. Weakened by an exhausting tour and a passage in detoxification cure, but also with his recording experience alongside Oliver Stone, Trent Reznor was called by ID Software to make the soundtrack of the Quake video game in 1996. The contract suits him perfectly, allowing him to work alone, while relaxing. He participated in the creation and production of the sounds, sounds and music of the game. That same year, he returned to the studio with Marilyn Manson to produce the reverend's flagship album, Antichrist Superstar. But work in the studio with Manson and his clique is not going as well as expected. The group is undermined by the leader's mood swings and the over-consumption of musicians' narcotics. Demonstrated and weakened, the group struggles to record something concrete and the tension rises between Reznor and Manson. At the same time, Reznor is contacted by director David Lynch who proposes to produce the soundtrack of the movie Lost Highway . Antichrist Superstar was finally born in October 1996 and marked the end of the collaboration between Reznor and Manson. Lost Highway B.O. was released in February 1997. There are titles by Marilyn Manson , Lou Reed , Smashing Pumpkins , Rammstein and David Bowie among others. Trent Reznor writes the songs The Perfect Drug, Videodrones ; Questions and Driver Down for the movie. In 1998, it was the turn of Rob Halford ( Judas Priest ) to approach Reznor for the production of the first album of 2wo, band Indus formed by Halford with notably John 5 . In 2001, he created the B.O. of the film Photos Obsession, but finally director Mark Romanek decided not to use his music. Reznor then included his recordings on the Deep Still . Between 2004 and 2006, Reznor co-produced two albums by Jakalope (Electro-Pop project by Dave Ogilvie of Skinny Puppy), It Dreams and Born 4 . In 2007, it was the turn of rapper Saul Williams to own the services of producer Trent Reznor, on the album The Inevitable Rise And Liberation Of Niggy Tardust! After the release of Year Zero, Trent Reznor is very uplifted against record companies and the recording industry in general. He decided to set up his own independent label, The Null Corporation, in 2008. Since then, the latest albums and singles by Nine Inch Nails and How To Destroy Angels have been released via this label. In February 2009, Reznor announced via the official website that Nine Inch Nails would disappear for a considerable time. He has big plans in mind. And indeed, in June 2010, Reznor declared that he was chosen to compose and produce the B.O. of David Fincher's film The Social Network, via his label The Null Corporation. He works in collaboration with British musician Atticus Ross. The project is a success. The B.O has several awards including a Golden Globe and an Oscar. The adventure does not stop there for the Reznor/Ross duo. They are beginning to create the soundtrack of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which also wins several awards. In addition to all these productions, Trent Reznor is credited with multiple projects by different artists. It appears on remix albums from different artists like U2 , N*E*R*D , Peter Gabriel , Queen , Megadeth , David Bowie , KMFDM and puts his voice on tracks for others such as Queens Of The Stone Age , Tori Amos , Pigface , EI-P , 1000 Homo DJs , Lucky Pierre and Robbie Robertson among others.
