Biography

Tricky , by his real name Adrian Thaws, was born in January 1968 in Bristol. Born into a mixed family (Jamaica, Spain, England, Asia, ...) and to tragic history (his father left the family shortly before his birth and his mother committed suicide when Adrian was only four), he lived with his grandmother during his childhood. During the 1980s, he was part of The Wild Bunch , then contributed to the first two albums of Massive Attack in the early 1990s. In 1995, Maxinquaye released her first solo album, Maxinquaye (named after her mother, Maxine Quaye), many of which, in different forms, are present on Massive Attack's Protection, Tricky having collaborated in writing the lyrics on this album. The albums follow ( Nearly God , Pre-Millenium Tension , Angels With Dirty Faces , Juxtapose , Blowback , A Ruff Guide , Vulnerable and the most recent Knowle West Boy ), as well as collaborations (Bjork , PJ Harvey , Emilie Simon , Scott Ian d'Anthrax , Neneh Cherry , ...), accompanied at her debut by singer Martina Topley Bird, then by Costanza Francavilla. Tricky is in constant contact with the film industry, either as a musician (The Crow: The City of Angels , Strange Days , Queen Of The Damned , ...), or as an actor (The 5th Element , Clean or Parabola , Tool's clip ).
