Biography

Trouble is one of the glorious pioneers of the Doom, alongside Saint Vitus, Candlemass or other The Obsessed. Influence of many formations, the group is one of the few survivors of the early doomesque chills. The band was formed in 1979 in Chicago (USA) by Eric Wagner (song), Sean McAllister (bass), Jeff Olson (battery) and Bruce Franklin & Rick Wartell (guitars), with the idea of playing music inspired by Black Sabbath and 60s psychedelism. After a pack of demos and a few concerts that make their little impact in the local underground, the band managed to get a deal at Metal Blade Records thanks to the track The Last Judgment, present on Metal Massacre Vol.4 , famous compilation edited by the label. The band released its first eponymous album in 1984, which will later be renamed Psalm 9 . The Skull follows quickly, however it reveals Wagner's growing addiction to various substances as well as the discord that is spreading within the group. Finally McAllister was replaced by Ron Holzner, and Olson left the band to become a priest, which, in addition to the openly religious lyrics, was worth Trouble being labelled White Metal, or Christian Metal. It takes 1987 to see Run to the Light unwind, with Dennis Lesch on the battery. In three albums, Trouble's influence grew slowly but surely at the same time as the number of fans. For the anecdote, two young people named Kirk and James acting in a small group called Metallica come one day after a concert to observe the setting of the amps allowing Trouble to ring in this way. Then for three years, nothing. Just as everyone begins to wonder if Trouble still lives, the band reappears with a deal at Rick Rubin Deaf American Records' label, and in their besace a new eponymous album showing the desire for psychedelism of formation. Barry Stern was recruited in the meantime instead of Lesch. Trouble then embarked on a long tour of more than a year, including the Dynamo Open Air of Eindhoven, before returning to the studio where he gave birth to Manic Frustration in 1992. This record bears witness to a certain influence of the Beatles, but despite that the band still does not encounter success strictly speaking, stifled at the same time as all the others by the new wave Grunge which then sweeps all over the world. After a period of...trouble for the band that gets released by its record company, finds a deal with Century Media and fire Stern to return Olson, all in a few months. It was in 1995 that Plastic Green Head was born, but the album appeared as the big black dot of the band's career, showing a general lack of training, and quickly confirmed by the departure of Wagner who was going to form Lid. Despite rumours of reformation, the band was believed to have died, but it took everyone by surprise by returning to give a few concerts in Chicago in 2002, going so far as to release a live DVD Trouble - Live in Stockholm in 2005. Note Wagner's participation in Dave Grohl's Probot project (ex-Nirvana / Foo Fighters) on My Tortured Soul . The same year Holzner left the band and was replaced by Chuck Robinson. In 2006 Trouble mourned when he learned of the death of his former drummer Stern. In 2007, a new album entitled A Simple Mind Condition was released with the original line-up, followed by the announcement of an upcoming acoustic album by Escapi Music.
