Turbonegro
Biography
Turbonegro is a band from Punk Hardcore / Rock from Oslo, Norway. Formed in 1988 around Happy-Tom, Vegard Heskestad (who played together in De Dype), Pål Bottger Kjærnes, Rune Grønn, Pål Erik Carlin and Tor-Kristian "TK" Jensen, Turbonegro played his first concert only in March 1989. A first single and an EP Turboloid are recorded in the wake, released on the label of Happy-Tom (Straitjacket Records). In parallel with the 50 copies published comes a cover of Computech ( The Stooges ). After these 2 records, Carlos Churasco left his drummer position to join Anal Babes and Sympathy For The Record Industry took advantage of it to re-release Route Zero in 1990 with 2 tracks from Turboloid. A first 3-week American tour begins shortly after, unfortunately soon forgotten because of an attack on Rune Green in Minneapolis. Turbonegro reprised in the middle of winter 1990 with Thomas Seltzer, Pål and Rune, as well as a new singer in the person of Harald Fossberg (Hærverk). A few months later, Bengt 'Bingo' Calmeyer took the bass and the complete line-up recorded Vaya Con Satan in the USA, followed by little of the first album Hot Cars and Spent Contraceptives. The basics of the Turbonegro sound are then laid, which will later be called Deathpunk. Tours in Scandinavia and Germany allow the band to make a name for themselves but Harald "Harry" Fossberg throws the sponge for medical reasons. Not defeatists, however, the other musicians recruited Hank Von Helvete, who would become the frontman of Turbonegro. At least, not immediately since the combo is renamed in Stierkampf , which will only come out of an EP Grunge Whore before taking over the original name. Never Is Forever was born in 1994, self-published at 1200 copies by the band and Oslo Musikk Distribusjon . 17 shows followed in Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands. It is not until 1995 to see the final look of Turbonegro reveal itself: denim and moustaches, accompanied by the singles Denim Demon and Band Mongo in 1995. A tour in the USA, Bingo and Pal leave Turbonegro (one to travel and the other for musical differences). This does not prevent the other musicians from leaving Ass Cobra , 3rd opus, which is followed, as usual, by a European tour with 2 new members for landing the absences of Bingo and Pal. The dates followed until 1997 when the misfortune fell again with a new start and the arrival of Chris Summers (Big Bang) to the battery. Their music is increasingly moving towards a Punkized Rock'n'Roll, with great makeup reinforcements and tight jeans. In 1998, Turbonegro released Apocalypse Dudes , described by Jello Biafra as "the new Turbonegro record is possibly the most important European record ever." A series of dates later, the quintet ended its existence after a last show in Oslo. From 1999 to 2002, Turbonegro's albums were reissued, with a live Darkness Forever! . To the general surprise, and at the request of the organizers of the Quart Festival (Norway), Turbonegro goes back on stage for what will become the first of a new long series of concerts. Scandinavian Leather released in 2003, 2nd opus of the Apocalypse trilogy. Two years later, it's Party Animals' turn to get into the bins, again and always followed by a big series of dates in Europe and the USA. Retox was born in 2007 and Rune Rebellion took a step back to stay in the position of manager and take care of Scandinavian Leather Recordings. It's then Chris Summers to be thanked, replaced by Thomas Dahl. The group's first press releases in 2008 indicate a new opus, Tumours , which would be scheduled for the end of the tour. Unfortunately, in a few words on a forum, Turbonegro announced an indefinite break and then the departure of frontman Hank Von Helvete, who then formed Doctor Midnight&The Mercy Cult . At the end of 2011, the combo announced its return with a brand new frontman. A new album, Sexual Harassment , was released in early 2012. Apart from its more than tumultuous existence, Turbonegro is known for its more than questionable words as shown by titles such as Rendezvous with Anus or I Got Erection.
