Tv On The Radio
Biography
Another representative of the triumphant musical eclecticism in Brooklyn, TV on The Radio was born in 2001 by the Tunde Adebimpe trio (vocals, loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitar, synth) and Kyp Malone (guitar, vocal, synth); a nucleus accompanied on stage by several other musicians, including Jaleel Bunton (battery) and Gerard Smith (bass), who later became permanent members.
With a variety of influences ranging from post-punk to jazz, soul and trip-hop, TVoTR's indie rock is exposed to listen for the first time in 2002, with OK Calculator (in reference to Radiohead). Since then, the group has signed an EP and 3 LP's on 4AD in Europe and Interscope in the USA. Their latest album, Dear Science , was awarded the album prize of the year by various magazines (Spin magazine, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly) and rewarded with their greatest public success.
In 2009, the group announced that it was now in hiatus. Kyp Malone released a solo album under the name Rain Machines, the same year. Tunde Adebimpe, for his part, has participated in various collaborations, notably on It's Blitz! Yeah Yeah Yeahs (produced by David Andrew Sitek) and on the track "Pray for Rain" by Massive Attack.
