Týr
Biography
Týr is a progressive folk metal group from the Faroe Islands (although its formation took place in Copenhagen). It was born from the meeting between guitarist Heri Joensen and drummer Kári Streymoy, with the aim of drawing inspiration from Nordic mythology and traditional Faroese music a whole brewing of many metal genres. They were soon joined by bassist Gunnar H. Thomsen, then by guitarist Jón Joensen and singer Pól Arni Holm. A demo was released in 2000 and allowed the band to sign on the Faroese label Tutl Records. In 2001, the second guitarist was replaced by Terji Skibenæs, and the first album, How Far To Asgard , was released in 2002. Shortly afterwards, Pól Arni Holm left the adventure, and the founding member Heri Joensen took over the microphone. Eric The Red followed in 2003, which allowed Týr to truly pierce. In early 2006, a contract was signed with Napalm Records, on which will be released four opus, from Ragnarok in 2006 to The Lay Of Thrym in 2011, as well as reissues of the first two and split Black Sails Over Europe (with Alestorm and Heidevolk). In 2013, drummer Kári Streymoy left the band for health reasons, and after a label change for Metal Blade Records, Valkyrja was recorded with George Kollias (Nile) behind the drums. It is then necessary to wait until 2016 for a new permanent drummer to be found in the person of Tadeusz Rieckmann (Sunwharf , ex-Dalriada ). In 2018 another change came with the departure of guitarist Terji Skibenæs, replaced by Attila Vörös (Strength Of Will , ex-Leander ), and it was finally in March 2019 that the eighth album was released: Hel .
