Tyranny
Biography
Tyranny is a very mysterious band from the Funeral Doom Metal scene. His music is extremely heavy and massive, similar to the power of the very first formations of the genre like Thergothon and Skepticism. Tyranny is actually the work of two men and elders of the Torture Doom group, Wormphlegm , Matti Mäkelä (Guitare / Chant) and Lauri Lindqvist (Chant / Bass / Claviers) who started their collaboration under this name in 2001 in Järvenpää in Finland. They describe their group as "designed by the will of a foreign power in order to channel the ageless resonances of the Earth, the oceans, the grandiose visions and dreams enfied by epic and funerary sound spectra." It takes them two years to release a first demo, entitled Bleak Vistae . This first effort strongly indicates within the Funeral Doom Metal scene of the mid-2000s, as the band seems to have remained blocked at the beginnings of the genre: monolithic growl voice, tortured guitars drowned in an ocean of distortion, all reminiscent of the original heaviness of the very first works of the genre. As a result, this first effort goes rather unnoticed because too extreme compared to other trainings. Only the elders, the same ones who had enjoyed Thergothon in his lifetime, will find a certain interest in the record, sometimes even to the point of censoring it by placing it alongside Stream For The Heavens or Stormcrowfleet. Tyranny nevertheless managed to sign a deal with Firebox Records which reissued the record in 2004. The two brothers returned to studios shortly afterwards, and gave birth in 2005 to their first album, Tides Of Awakening , which was released by Firedoom Music. This new album does not really differ from their previous production, the band continuing its exploration of the original sounds of the Funeral Doom Metal. After ten years of almost absolute discretion, the duo returned with Aeons In Tectonic Interment and acquired three musicians Jussi-Pekka Manner (Battery), Jyri Lustig (Guitare) and Anssi Mäkinen (Claviers) for live sessions.
