Ugly Kid Joe
Biography
Ugly Kid Joe trained in Isla Vista (California) around Whitfield Crane (song) and Klaus Eichstadt (guitar) in 1987. They record two demos together and eventually surround themselves with Cordell Crockett (bass), Roger Lahr (guitar) and Mark Davis (battery) for the recording of their first EP, As Ugly As They Wanna Be , released in 1991. Instant success thanks to the songs Madman and Everything About You (which we can hear in Wayne's World): certified 2 times platinum in the United States, this is the first EP in RIAA history to have been certified platinum! The band was quickly approached by majors and Mercury won the jackpot. The band spent two months in the studio (during which Dave Fortman will arrive in place of Roger Lahr) to release at the end of 1992 America's Last Wanted , which recaptures the Madman (in a new version) and Everything About You , as well as their famous cover of Harry Chapin's Cats In The Cradle. The album's cover is quickly censored in the United States: the group's mascot kid was represented as a statue of freedom pointing a major in the air rather than the usual torch, the censored version will make appear the same gaggy kid and the fist wrapped up by sparadrap. This first album will also be certified double platinum and the band will tour with Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard, Motörhead, Aerosmith, Poison, Bon Jovi, Van Halen ... The band spent two years on tour and recruited Shannon Larkin as a new drummer in 1994. In 1995, Ugly Kid Joe released her second album, Menace To Sobriety and despite good reviews, the album was considered a commercial failure by Mercury. It must be said that the grunge has passed through this and that the neo-metal is beginning to emerge. In 1996, the band released its third album, Motel California , on an indie label. The band continued to play actively but ended up separating in 1997. It will take until 2010 to hear again about Ugly Kid Joe, who launches on the tracks a new EP, Stairway To Hell, which meets a success of esteem and will be republished later in deluxe version with notably an acoustic version of Cats In The Cradle. In early 2015, the band successfully launched a crowdfunding campaign on PledgeMusic to fund their fourth album. Uglier As They Used Ta Be released at Metalville on October 16, 2015.
