Ved Buens Ende
Biography
We don't know much about the beginnings of Ved Buens Ende. Trained in 1994 in Oslo under the leadership of Carl-Michael Eide, the trio brings together the latter, providing drums and singing, Vicotnik (guitar, singing), and Skoll (Basse). Quickly, the band recorded a few tracks gathered in the demo Those Who Caress The Pale, allowing it to sign a deal with the English label Misanthropy Records. The following year released the only album of the combo, but which, with hindsight, had a very special status. Affiliated to the entire Norwegian black metal scene of the time, this first album by Ved Buens Ende, titled Writen In Waters, makes a spectacular leap forward in the evolution of the genre, as well as bands like Arcturus, Abruptum or Solefald. However, contrary to the above-mentioned comparisons, Ved Buens Ende advances music in its own way by proposing a black metal destroyed, sleek and shaped in such a way that it retains only musical elements of the style to which it refers. Thus, Writen In Waters can be considered one of the first (otherwise LE first) post-black metal albums, shade to detach from the avant-garde black metal, if they want to remain precise in terminology. Unfortunately, the group splits two years later, after having released its first demo in the form of an ep (with an unpublished title). However, its members do not remain inactive as they can boast of having each evolved in more important formations of the avantgarde stage of the black metal, namely DHG, Ulver, Satyricon, Aura Noir, Virus, and many others...
At the end of 2006, rumours about a reformation, and the possibility for the band to release an album. But this will not succeed because of artistic misconceptions between Vicotnik and Czral. It was finally in 2019 that the reformation took place during a few concerts. Skoll is back to bass and it is Øyvind Myrvall from DHG that finds itself behind the drums. At this stage, the band had a contradictory speech about the possibility of a new album by Ved Buens Ende.
