Vio Lence
Biography
Vio-Lence is a Thrash Metal band from the Bay Area (San Francisco), formed in 1985 following the change of name to Death Penalty. The group then consists of Perry Strickland (Battery - ex Testament , ex Exodus ), Phil Demmel (Guitare - Lamb Of God , Overkill , ex Machine Head , ex Slayer ), Deen Dell (Basse ), Troy Fua (Guitare) and Jerry Birr (Chant ). Jerry was replaced the following year by Sean Killian on singing and a certain Robb Flynn ( Machine Head ) replaced Troy on guitar. After releasing three demos in 1986, Vio-Lence began releasing a first album entitled Eternal Nightmare, which appeared in 1988 at MCA Records. The band toured with Testament and Sanctuary , then Voivod , before releasing their second album, Oppressing The Masses , in 1990, this time at Megaforce Records. The title Torture Tactics, set aside for this album due to his lyrics, was finally published in an ep of the same name the following year. The band returned to the studio after a tour with Defiance, but due to label problems, this third album was released only in 1993. Robb Flynn left the band to found Machine Head . He was replaced by Ray Vegas and drummer Mark Hernandez entered Vio-Lence instead of Perry Strickland. The band recorded a demo before they split up. In 2001, Vio-Lence went back on stage at the Thrash Of The Titans, a charity concert for Chuck Billy (The Testament) and Chuck Schuldiner (Death), both suffering from cancer. Composed of Perry Strickland (Battery), Phil Demmel (Guitare), Sean Killian (Chant), Deen Dell (Basse) and Troy Fua (Guitare), the band gave other dates and in 2002 even evokes the recording of a new album. In 2003, Phil Demmel, who had already helped Machine Head on a few occasions, was recruited as a permanent guitarist by Robb Flynn's band. Vio-Lence announces his separation shortly after. Perry, Phil and Sean returned in 2022 surrounded by Christian Olde Wolbers (Basse) and Bobby Gustafson (Guitare) and released an ep at Metal Blade Records: Let The World Burn.
