Biography

Created in 1993 by two Irish brothers, Ciaran O'Hagan and Dermot O'Hagan, Waylander quickly distinguished himself from the rest of the scene by their daring to mix Irish folk elements with metal. After recruitment, the line-up consisted of Ciaran O'Hagan singing, Dermot O'Hagan on guitar, Den Ferran on drums and Jason Barriskill on bass. At the end of 1995, after only one demo (Once Upon An Era ), Jason Barriskill was thanked for a lack of investment and was replaced by Michael Proctor, who recorded the second demo (Dawning Of A New Age ) in 1996. At that time, he was a session keyboardist who handled all folk sounds. He then followed the meeting with Mairtin Mac Cormaic, a traditional flute player, who integrated full-time line-up.
It was in 1997 that the band was spotted by Century Media (Celtic Frost , Finntroll ...), which allowed them to record an album in Germany with producer Andy Classen ( Belphegor , Die Apokalyptischen Reiter , Tankard ...). The album gets incensed all over the underground scene. In 1999 the band decided to recruit a second guitarist and gave the position to Peter Boylan, who had participated in the recording of the band's pre-demo, and then signed in 2001 at Blackend Records (Novembers Doom, Avulsed ...) for their second album (The Light, The Dark And The Endless Knot).
After various incidents of line-up, Waylander released last June a third album (Honour Amongst Chaos ) by Listable Records (Gojira , Kruger , Ultra Vomit ...) and consists of Ciaran O'Hagan singing, Gareth Murdock and Saul McMichael guitars, Michael Proctor bass, Den Ferran drums and Dave Briggs folk instruments.
