Biography

Formed in 2002, Xnoybis is a trio articulated around BenoƮt Courribet (Basse / Chant), Romain Leblanc (Guitare / Chant) and Julien Tardieu (Batterie), three enthusiasts of acoustics and sound research, fields to which they devote themselves professionally. The origin of the name of the group comes from a double influence: Xnoybis is the name of a violin piece by the 20th century Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi , who worked in the perspective of an introspective immersion in sound. It is also the name of a piece of the cult group Godflesh (which undoubtedly also inspired itself from Scelsi). Initially using rehearsal rooms in southern Paris, they decided in 2005 to base themselves in the Oise, in order to better work the sound of the band, which turns out to be a crucial parameter of their music.
After the recording, in rehearsal, of a first demo, at the end of 2004, they started a studio project of another scale. At the end of March 2006, they locked up eight days in an isolated house in the Basque country with Alexandre Garacotche and his impressive park of vintage microphones and preamps. The recording is based on a live take of the trio, no artificial reverb is used. The result of these sessions, their first album Solace , between Neurosis , Godflesh and Isis , appeared in 2007. Three years later, the now bass duo / battery refocused on Benoit and Julien, released an ep named Meanwhile as well as a split with Pord.
