Tribute to the actor of the same name having been one of the first men of color to have been able to impose in the cinema by obtaining the first roles, the group took birth in Santa Cruz in 1997 following the split of Staple in which Casey and Mag operated. Decided to recompose a project in which Casey would take a second guitar in addition to his role as a singer, the two competitors enlist a long-time friend, Pat, to take care of the bass, and alternate the volunteers to the drums. First forged by the law of the stage, Yaphet Kotto recorded his first compositions in Casey's salon with political commitment and the fight against all forms of discrimination as a guideline. Together, these titles will become the first 7" of the group. In the spring of 1999, he was a budding LP: The Killer Was In The Government Blankets. A joy followed with sadness since Pat suddenly decided the same year to leave his friends. Keith Miller will replace him just the time of a split with Suicide Nation before leaving in turn.
In reality, the line up will not stop changing, not preventing the band from gradually building its legend between historical shows, albums of anthology Syncopated Synthetic Laments For Love (2002), We Bury Our Dead Alive (2004), and volcanic splits (notably the one with Envy and this title The Fall whose intro remains a monument for all lovers of the genre). Each of the works will be released via Ebulliton Records known to be an underground Screamo label of sacred monsters like Orchid, Ampere or Reversal Of Man. The success of the group is such that the majority of Californian productions are now sold out. Born from a line of crippled Hardcore ( His Hero Is Gone , Union Of Uranus ), Yaphet Kotto , animated by a fury of living , mixes his emotions with skin, bringing a double song that will be brought to date. First considered the most brutal part of the Emo mobility (second wave), we talked about a time of Emoviolence, before requalifying the style of the later years of Screamo. There are no longer any training courses in Yaphet Kotto: The Death Of Anna Karina , Raein , Funeral Diner , Tristan Tzara abroad or The Flying Worker , Amanda Woodward , Immediately Death , The Famous NTM in France to name but a few. The American group was reverenced in 2005, leaving for ever its name affiliated with the term Screamo.
