Biography

Zakk Wylde , born Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt on 14 January 1967 in Bayonne, New Jersey, is an American guitarist. Ozzy Osbourne guitarist from 1988 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2009, he is recognizable thanks to his fast play and his "harmonic pinch". Guitarist and singer of his own group of Heavy Metal, Black Label Society, he continued to play in parallel with Osbourne for 15 years. Wylde left Ozzy in the summer of 2009, when he decided to hire Gus G. in his place. A figure of the American Heavy and main composer of No More Tears, Ozzy Osbourne's most sold album, Zakk Wylde has been at the origin of Osbourne's current sound in recent years. In 2006, he was dedicated to Hollywood's RockWalk of Fame, among other great names in music. He manages his own label, Panworkz, a subsidiary of E1 Music, but also various derivatives, such as dried beef, beer, coffee, hot sauce brands, all black labeled as the name of his band. In addition, he works on various projects, such as opening a pub/bar and writing a script for a film project. In 1996, between two albums with Ozzy Osbourne and before the creation of Black Label Society, he released his first solo album, Book of Shadows. He surrounds drummer Joe Vitale and guitarist Nick Catanese. An opus of a totally different genre from what he did before with Osbourne, mixing Folk Rock and Rock Sudiste, most of the songs being played on acoustic guitar and piano. Sometimes compared to Neil Young's sound, this album is much more calm and melodic than the albums Zakk Wylde has already worked on. In 2016, 20 years after Book of Shadows, Wylde returned with the sequel, soberly titled Book of Shadows II. Zakk Wylde's style of play is often criticized for his lack of risk taking in his albums, often contenting himself, according to critics, with playing the same "pinch harmonics", without ever seeking to use other ways of playing. These reviews are even more vivid since Ozzy Osbourne is looking for a new guitarist, accusing Wylde of writing songs that sound too much like Black Label Society. Nevertheless, he remains one of the most influential and recognized guitarists of the American Heavy Metal. Attests to his introduction to Hollywood's RockWalk of Fame and several young guitarists claiming to be directly influenced by his game. The guitarist of Children of Bodom, Alexi Laiho, quotes him as one of his greatest musical influences, or Mark Tremonti of the band Alter Bridge.
